"Maintain the Crane" - BMI restores historic crane

The Baltimore Museum of Industry is currently raising funds to repair and refresh the World War II era crane currently located at the museum's Inner Harbor Location. During World War II, this crane worked in Bethlehem Steel’s Fairfield Shipyard, where close to 500 Liberty and Victory ships were built. After the war, it was moved to the Key Highway yard and used to repair ships for another four decades. “The Yards” employed 11,000 workers and was the largest ship repair facility in the United States until its closing in 1982.

The museum is also interested in hearing from former crane operators who may have worked on this crane.
